Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Tips & Tricks
Since launching my website and blog this past August, I’ve been anxiously keeping track of page visits and other critical visitor information to my site. I thought I’d share some important tips that will help you make your own pages “sing” with search engines.
1) Submit your site to Google & Yahoo
Google
Yahoo: you’ll need to get a Yahoo ID, kind of a pain, but do it anyways since other search engines like Dogpile feed off of Yahoo.
2) Embed relevant keywords within your META tags
Personally, I use Google Webmaster and Google Analytics to gauge what keywords my users are entering in this search engine to find my page.
3) Build strong incoming and outgoing links
Anytime I can drop my URL over the web, I do it. I have a blog that links into my personal website, and I comment on other people’s blogs and affix my URL. Want to see how many links are inbound to your site…check out Yahoo Site Explorer.
4) Title your pages
Make sure you title every page in your website, and make every page title unique.
5) Affix alt tags to images
To help both search engines, and the disabled, make sure you label all images that appear on your pages.
