Stephanie,

Good summary!

There are several ways to count online travel penetration in Europe - I found this site http://www.hotelmarketing.com/index.php/content/article/071002_top_five_online_travel_markets_in_europe/
to be helpful - their numbers are a little more aggressive than mine.

Another to note is that when it comes to payments in Europe, we are actually a bit behind. Credit cards are one of the more expensive ways to pay for goods and services, but in the US there are rules that hide those costs. Europeans are not constrained in this way, and therefore are able to choose a lower cost way of paying if they choose. Hence the lower CC use. To see some more data on this trend, check out this report http://www.bis.org/publ/cpss44.pdf.

Anyways - good luck at Marquette!

Good post. Fortunately it seems like most companies are steering away from splash pages. The novelty of "in your face" flash is wearing off and the subtle use of flash without ruining SEO is emerging.

I Love my MacBook Pro too, thank you so much for recommending it for me. It has proven very helpful and I carry it everywhere. I could stilll use a few more lessons on how to operate it to its full potential though :)
